NPSO - Home page Home 2017 Wildflower Shows,Plant Sales, Workshops 2017 Annual Meeting! NPSO's Response to Proposed Sale of Elliott State Forest On February 14, the Oregon State Land Board voted 2-1 to sell the Elliott State Forest. The final vote will be April 11th, 2017. Here is NPSO President Lisa Blackburn's response which was sent to the Oregon State Land Board. Letter. Excerpt of letter: 'Concerning the Elliott State Forest, Governor Kate Brown stated "It is clear to me that it is in the best interest of Oregonians to ensure public ownership of the Elliott State Forest. The importance of state- owned lands has increased as the future of federal public lands has come into question." The Native Plant Society of Oregon (NPSO) supports Governor Brown’s remarks and issues this position statement:' 'The Native Plant Society of Oregon firmly supports Governor Kate Brown's intent to keep the Elliott State Forest in the public trust. Furthermore, NPSO adamantly opposes and categorically rejects Tobias Reed and Dennis Richardson's plan to sell this critical habitat for native plants and animals to the highest bidder.' Welcome to NPSOregon.org! Whether you're a first-timer or a regular visitor to our website, we hope you find what you need. If it's not here, or you have a suggestion for improvement or a problem report, . Enjoying Oregon's native flora Oregon has over 3600 species of native plants. Large or small, abundant or rare, each is unique and special. Student of the flora! (N. Jensen) Ecoregions ranging from coastal sand dunes and mountain forest to prairie grasslands and alpine lava fields provide a myriad of habitats for these plants. Local chapters hold meetings, field trips, and plant shows and sales for members and non-members alike, making available the knowledge and wonder of our native plants to everyone. Conservation & preservation Over 450 of our native plant species are listed as threatened or endangered by the Oregon Biodiversity Information Center. Native plants provide food and support for wildlife that introduced plants cannot. Conserving and preserving species and habitat for all native species, but especially those in danger, is a priority for NPSO. Study and education NPSO, both at the state level and through individual chapters, provides support for research about native plants. Classes providing information about native plants are given by local chapters. The NPSO Bulletin and our journal, Kalmiopsis, provide timely and in-depth coverage of issues relating to native plants.
